DIY Jewelry Tutorial: How To Make Memory Wire Hoop Earrings

Hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! Things have been really busy around my house the past few days; just completing the usual errands and visiting my family over the weekend.

I planned to have this tutorial up a few days ago, but between my regular job, working on new items for the site, keeping up my running routine, and my video game addiction (haha), this post has been a little delayed (so sorry!).

So without further ado, hope you enjoy the tutorial! ^_^

Tutorial: How to make Memory Wire Hoop Earrings

Step One: Gather all of the necessary tools. To make these earrings, you'll need the following items:

- Memory Wire (can be bought at your local craft store, such as Michael's or AC Moore)
- Beads of your choosing
- Earring Hooks (Quantity: 2)
- Round Nose Pliers
- Flat Long Nose Pliers
- Side Cutters (you may want to reserve a pair just for cutting memory wire, as it can be rough on your cutters)
- Two Open Jump Rings

From left to the right, you have your round nose pliers, side cutters, and flat long nose pliers.
Above is your memory wire spool, two earring wires and two open jump rings.

Step Two:
Take your side cutters and cut one loop from the memory wire. The cut ends should be close together, perhaps slightly overlapped. This will be the wire for your first hoop earring.

Step Three: Take your round nose pliers and make a loop on one end of the memory wire. Sometimes memory wire can be a tough material to work with, so make sure you have a good grip on your pliers, as they may slip.

Step Four: Now start to thread your beads of choice into any particular pattern you wish onto the memory wire. I personally chose apple green glass crackle beads and golden seed beads for my earrings.

Step Five: Once you've completed threading the beads onto the memory wire hoop, you'll want to stop about a half an inch from the end of the wire, so you can take your round nose pliers and create a second loop.

Step Six: Once you used your round nose pliers and created the second loop, repeat steps 1-5 to create your second hoop earring. When you're done, your earring should look similar to the below set.

Step Seven: Now it's time to open your jump rings. Take your long nose pliers and open your jump ring. When you open your jump ring, please remember to open it in an "up or down motion", and not by opening the ring width wise, otherwise it will ruin the jump ring. See below image for reference on how to properly open the jum ring.

Step Eight: Take one of your earrings and push them together gently until the two loops sit flush on top of each other. You will then want to use the open jump ring to hook both loops together. At this time, you'll also want to hook your earring wire onto the open jump ring (see the images below). Once this is done, you can close the jump ring.

Step Nine: Repeat step eight for your second hoop earring.
Step Ten: You're finished! You can now enjoy your new beautiful handmade memory wire hoop earrings!
I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial - now go out and make you some gorgeous earrings! If you'd like to purchase the hoop earrings that you see here today, please click here!
